MS Awareness Week 2023

Multiple Sclerosis is a condition that can affect the brain and spinal cord, causing problems with vision, arm or leg movement and sensation or balance. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40 but can affect younger and older people too.

MS Awareness Week runs from the 24th – 30th April, this year is about the impact Multiple Sclerosis has on mental health and overall well-being. We are raising awareness through discussing the support we offer at The Good Care Group and sharing knowledgeable advice on how to live well with MS.

Training our carers

In order to provide the utmost support to our clients living with MS, all our carers attend a 5 day induction course before they start their first placement. This covers a wide range of topics including neurologic conditions like MS, as well as the opportunity for further development through our ongoing training courses.  We then ensure that our carers are perfectly matched to our clients based on their needs, personality and interests.

For further information on how we support our clients with MS care, take a look at our case study

Improving mental-wellbeing for MS

With the right support offered from our well trained carers, this will make living well with Multiple Sclerosis an achievable goal. Here are some tips on how to improve quality of life:

    • Diet and nutrition – A healthy diet can help to manage symptoms, promote long-term health of the nervous system and prevent other conditions from developing.
    • Exercise – Staying active is a crucial part of living with MS and regular exercise can enhance overall health, maximise mobility and improve muscle strength, fitness and weight control.
    • Lifestyle changes – Giving up smoking can also reduce MS symptoms.

If you are interested in getting involved this week you could organise a fundraiser or organise a bake sale. There are plenty of ways to raise funds for such a fantastic cause, for more ideas visit MS Society.
