Houseplant Week
Houseplant Week occurs every year in the UK, celebrating the beauty and benefits of indoor plants. This event inspires individuals to value and nurture their houseplants, whilst exploring the joys of adding new greenery to indoor spaces.
Incorporating houseplants is a great addition to any home, adding the fresh scent of living earth, the subtle fragrance of those favourite flowers and bringing a bit of the outdoors indoors can make a difference.
For many, houseplants can be challenging to sustain over a long period of time, due to a number of factors. With live-in care, our team of professionals are dedicated to delivering quality assistance while helping you preserve valued aspects of your home, including houseplants.
Benefits of houseplants
There are many benefits that houseplants can bring, this includes:
- Reduce stress – Houseplants have been proven to reduce stress levels and keep blood pressure lower.
- Change of scenery – Scientists have found that houseplants can boost mood and increase happiness due to the beautiful coloured flowers that bring life to a home.
- Releases happy chemicals – Having an active hobby such as taking care of houseplants is proven to release endorphins, which can help if you have anxiety or depression.
At The Good Care Group, one of our clients, Miriam, who is a Horticulturist shares her input on the wonders of houseplants:
“I love spending time in my garden; I find it nice and enjoyable. Anything to do with nature and greenery is very good and soothing for the soul. Just like music.”
How to celebrate houseplant appreciation day
Celebrating houseplant week can have reaching benefits and can be a fun activity. Here are low maintenance ideas, if you wish to get involved:
Aloe Vera – this type of plant thrives with minimum care and prefers infrequent watering. Aloe Vera grows quite well indoors and is perfect when used as a first-aid treatment for minor cuts and bruises and helps to moisturise the skin.
Cactuses and succulents – These additional easy-care plants are ideal for those starting out. Succulents, in particular, are enjoyable as they propagate quickly, creating the opportunity to expand one houseplant into several with fast turnaround.
