Forget-me-not cafes

The Good Care Group partner with home instead to launch new forget-me-not cafe in Sevenoaks.

The Good Care Group and home instead senior care are delighted to be celebrating the launch of our new forget-me-not café in Sevenoaks, providing support and companionship to those in the community who are recognising issues with their memory or cognition as well as their carers, family, and friends. Our café will be a community focused and is co-sponsored by National Trust at Knole House which is situated in the beautiful surroundings of Knole Park. The Good Care Group worked with National Trust at Knole to deliver dementia awareness to their volunteers beginning in 2015, they have gone on to have their own champions and are rolling dementia awareness out across their national trust sites in Kent. The monthly Café will be partly supported by the Knole volunteers who are keen to get started.

Elaine Ferris Area Manager, Kent for The Good Care Group and Symone Salwan Director of Home Instead Senior Care Sevenoaks & Tunbridge Wells have worked together over three years to raise awareness and are passionate about people having support, information and choice as they face the challenges of living with cognitive impairment. Elaine & Symone Co-Chair the Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Communities (SA-DFC) where like-minded individuals, organisations and businesses come together to work toward a common goal, the members of the SA-DFC will also offer support at the cafes which range from legal, financial, care support and community support advice. There will also be fun in a relaxed atmosphere with tea and CAKE! There is no cost to the people attending.

The first two café’s in Westerham and Edenbridge began in 2015 sponsored by innovation funding from the Kent Dementia Action Alliance, we are so pleased that we are adding a third in Sevenoaks and that all three Forget-me-not café have secured funding for another year through the SA-DFC fundraising event; Run Walk or Push Against Dementia run which was organised by Sevenoaks District Council with SA-DFC and took place in May. The Dementia Run was very well attended and has raised over £4,500 which will go towards dementia friendly projects in the Sevenoaks District. This event will become annual and we are already working on next year’s organisation.

The forget-me-not café Launch Event will be attended by people living with dementia and professionals who are all very happy to align their support for dementia friendly communities and who understand the importance of working together to improve standards and communication. We are delighted that the Mayor of Sevenoaks, The Chairman of Sevenoaks District Council the Kent Police District Commander, senior managers from National Trust, Carers First, Kent Fire and Rescue will be joining us and will stand together to show that Sevenoaks is a collaborative community working toward one goal. Chairman of Sevenoaks District Council; Cllr Larry Abraham, will be presenting the fund raising cheque from the Run Walk or Push Against Dementia event at the Café Launch Event.
