In February, the daughter of our Director of Operations, Dominique Kent and her husband, Iain Gordon, sadly passed away. Ellie Gordon was a beautiful and bubbly four year old who was born with a complex disability, having a diagnosis of both Dystonia and Mitochondria disease. Ellie spent her last few weeks at the Helen and Douglas House, a hospice dedicated to providing the most amazing care to children with terminal illnesses and support for their families.
On Saturday 29th June, The Good Care Group had the pleasure of helping support an incredible concert held in Ellie’s memory and raise much-needed funds for the Helen and Douglas House hospice. The unique percussion concert collaborated the hand bells of 17th century England the steel pans of the Caribbean at St Lawrence’s Church, Chobham, Surrey.
The event was a huge success; we had over 100 attendees including local counsellors and Sister Frances Dominica, the founder of the Helen and Douglas House Hospice. Guests were able to enjoy the special event in the beautiful ancient church grounds, overlooking the summer sun with complimentary drinks provided for the event by The Good Care Group. The ceremony ended with Sister Frances Dominica thanking the audience with a heart-warming prayer that will hold close to our hearts.
We are delighted to have raised £1,800 for the charity, which is an amazing achievement and our thanks go to Pippa Elkins, the local people and businesses, the church and musicians that organised this special evening.
What a lovely way for Ellie to leave a little of her spark behind.
A number of The Good Care Group employees are taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge in September in aid of Helen and Douglas House Hospice, in memory of Ellie Gordon – more updates on our progress and how you can support us on the way!
