At The Good Care Group we provide respite care to clients for a variety of reasons; giving a family member a break from caring for a loved one, allowing family to take a family holiday or simply giving people the opportunity to experience live-in care before making their final decision.
Our Scotland based Professional Live-in Carers have provided some respite stories for us to share, that illustrate how our short term care supports families and loved one.
The Good Care Group was contacted by a social worker and asked to provide 2 weeks respite for a gentleman who had complex care needs. The gentleman had a complex process for his personal care, required to be supported to take a great deal of medication and was required to be hoisted several times a day using specialised equipment.
During the assessment the Care Manager spoke to the Occupational Therapist (OT) and received detailed instructions on how this gentleman should be mobilised. Our inhouse OT was involved in all discussions and she provided training and support to the Live-in Carer who was going to provide the respite care.
The Care Manager remained in contact with the carer daily and with the client and his family during the respite period to ensure the complex care was carried out in line with the client’s expectations.
At the end of the period of care, the client and his family were happy with the provision of care and asked The Good Care Group to provide care the next time it was required.
