Jamie Stalker, a Care Manager at The Good Care Group wrote a short piece for us on the dedication that one of his Carer displayed towards her client.
Tony has been supported by The Good Care Group since 2014. He lives in Oxford and has always been visited on a weekly basis by the local priest, who provides protected time for Tony to receive Holy Communion at home.
Due to an ankle injury in 2016, Tony was very restricted in his mobility and this prevented him from being able to access the church in Oxford, something he previously loved to do.
After his long recovery and getting back on his feet at home, Carer Eszter Mazlo, who joined us in August 2017, investigated the opportunity for Tony to get back to visiting Church again. Following a full assessment and input from our Occupational Therapist Jackie Cooper, and time spent by Eszter researching and sourcing relevant transport, we set about making arrangements.
The result; every Sunday, Tony and his carer are picked up by a wheelchair accessible taxi from home, and taken to St Aloysius Parish Church in Oxford, where he can spend as much time as he desires enabling him to follow his faith. Tony is then supported back home in the same fashion, all in time for him and the carer to enjoy lunch together.
