Working as a home carer
As a professional carer with The Good Care Group, you will provide both care and companionship to clients. This includes providing assistance with daily activities, personal care, or support in managing specialist conditions such as dementia – all in the comfort of their own home.
All clients have a care plan which you will access online via the Chrome book that we provide all our professional carers with. Each carer has a care manager who is responsible for a region and who will check in with both you and your client on a regular basis.
We do our best to match you to a client, based not only on your care skills and experience, but also on personalities and interests. We know that companionship works both ways and that the experience is best for both of you when we get this right.
We also offer high-quality palliative care, short-term respite care and in daycare services (London only). Complex care services are nurse and occupational therapy-led, so clinical tasks such as monitoring blood sugar and managing PEG feeds, catheters and stoma can be delegated to professional live-in carers. We are the only dedicated live-in care service to have an occupational therapist to guide clients with complex mobility support needs and assist with safe and quick discharges from the hospital. We are also extremely lucky to have our own consultant admiral nurse who provides support and training for carers looking after individuals living with dementia.
Live-in care
Live-in care is different from other types of care because you will only work in one household. This means the client receives individualised support and you have the time to get to know them properly. Our live-in carers move in with our clients for the duration of their chosen rota. For example, a rota can be two weeks on and two weeks off, but we have a range of rotas to choose from.
With live-in care, a client typically has a team of two carers who take it in turn to live with them. When one professional live-in carer arrives at the client’s home, they have a handover with the previous carer. We aim to keep the same team with the same client for the duration of them working with us as this allows our carers and clients to build up a real connection.
Live- in care means having time to get to know your client, time to help them enjoy life and time to provide outstanding care completely tailored to their needs and preferences.
Hourly care
Hourly care, sometimes called visiting care, is when a carer visits the client in their own home throughout the day or week to provide care and support. Hourly care is typically provided on an as-needed basis, ranging from just a few short visits a week to as many visits throughout the day as a client requires.
Hourly carers provide all the same services as live-in carers. This could include household tasks, personal care, preparing and cooking meals or any other activity that allows our clients to maintain their independence and quality of life

Training
All our carers have to attend and pass our five- day induction course located in central London, and we run this every week so you can get booked into a training session at your convenience. We will pay for your hotel accommodation and breakfast will be provided. We contribute towards your lunch expenses so you just need to pay for your evening meal and cover any additional personal expenses. You will also need to pay for your travel to training, which will be reimbursed in accordance with our expenses policy.

- Condition-led care, including dementia and Parkinson’s
- First aid
- Moving and handling
- Mental capacity
- End-of-life care
- Medication management
- Safeguarding
During the week, you will also be assessed by our trainers to see whether you have the compassion, empathy and willingness to join our team of outstanding carers. They will look at how you interact with other members of staff and trainees, your participation and general housekeeping, such as arriving for training on time and paying attention during all sessions.

We often get asked about vacancies in specific parts of the country, and it’s important to know that our first priority is to match our clients and carers based on the client’s needs and the carer’s skills. We also look at common interests, likes and dislikes as we know that companionship works both ways and that the experience is best for both of you when we get this right. It also means you could be placed with a client anywhere in England and Scotland, and the good news is that we cover your UK travel expenses to and from placement.
What happens after training?
Upon passing your induction training and being cleared for work you will begin a 16-week probationary period. During this time you will be working towards your Care Certificate using our online course. You will have support as you need it from our Learning and Development team, as well as your dedicated care manager.

You will have on-going supervision, coaching, mentoring and everything you need for a rewarding career in home care.
Webinars: Join our monthly webinar remotely from your digital device, and access instant learning on a range of topics with a variety of expert speakers. There is always something new to learn.
Workshops: Our workshops, which run throughout the year, will deepen your knowledge and understanding of dementia, Parkinson’s disease, ‘end of life’ care and much more.
Diploma: You have the opportunity to study ‘Working in Care Services RCF Level 2 Diploma’ while working with us, and we will cover the cost of the course.
