When it becomes clear that someone you care about is struggling with their personal care, it can be an unsettling time for families. Reduced independence, mobility issues and living with specialist conditions like dementia can all impact a person’s ability to keep up with their usual personal care routines. This can significantly impact their confidence and quality of life.
At The Good Care Group, our expertly trained carers provide sensitive and respectful support directly in our clients’ homes. Our personal care services are focused on ensuring the dignity, comfort and privacy of every individual we support. Our dedicated carers can provide the helping hand you need to look and feel your best every day.
If you are considering personal care at home, we have created this guide to help you evaluate the costs of receiving care in your own home. If you need guidance on your options, our friendly advisors are just a phone call away.
How much does personal care cost?
Many factors impact the cost of personal care in the UK. This includes the type of care provider, the care recipient’s health and whether clinical or nursing care is required. Weekly fees will differ from provider to provider depending on these factors.
Personal live-in care from The Good Care Group starts at £1,295 per week for full-time care from six hours a day. Other options are available for different levels of care.
To properly assess the cost of personal care at home, our expert Care Manager will meet with you and your family to undertake a comprehensive assessment of your care needs. This assessment will cover all your wishes and preferences about how you wish to continue living at home.
After this assessment, we will have the necessary information to provide a quotation for the personal care package that will best meet your needs. Our personal care is quoted as a weekly inclusive price based on a person’s assessed needs – there are no extras or hidden fees. Since we are a fully managed service provider, you also won’t have to worry about agency fees or retainers.

Available funding for personal care
To help cover some or all of the cost of your care, you may be entitled to either social care funding provided by your local authority or healthcare funding provided by the NHS.
If you have an identified healthcare need and are receiving care at home, you may be eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding. This funding is arranged and funded by your local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). It is important to note that CHC funding is not means tested, so even if you exceed the threshold for social care funding, you may still be eligible for CHC funding from the NHS.
To determine your eligibility, you will need to visit your GP who will complete an initial assessment and refer your case to the CCG for consideration. If other healthcare professionals are involved in your care, they may also be able to assist you with the process. You must then complete a full assessment with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals so they can understand the complexity of your needs.
You may also be entitled to social care funding from your local authority. This form of funding is only available if your assets are worth less than £23,250. To learn if you are eligible, your local authority will complete a care needs assessment to understand your specific needs. You will also be required to do a means assessment so the local authority can better understand your financial circumstances.
In addition, you may be eligible for other forms of local authority funding, including exemption of discounts on your council tax, attendance allowance and savings credit.
